Wheel Arch Deep Cleaning: Before & After on a Yellow MINI

we explain the detail of mini here

Some cars stay in the family even after their replacement arrives.

This yellow MINI belonged to the wife of one of our regular clients. She loved the car, and it held enough sentimental value that upgrading to a newer MINI didn’t mean saying goodbye to this one.

The plan was to keep it and put it into storage. Our part was to help bring it to a thoroughly clean, carefully presented condition including the areas normally hidden behind the wheels.

A closer look behind the wheel

Before—dirt and buildup inside the wheel arch, ready for a thorough clean.

Wheel arches can hold dirt and road grime that a regular wash doesn’t fully address. With the wheel removed, the condition of the inner arch becomes much easier to see and we can access areas that would otherwise be difficult to clean thoroughly.

On this MINI, that included the plastic wheel arch liner, the exposed yellow paintwork and accessible suspension components.

Degreasing and steam cleaning

We safely supported the car on stands and removed the wheel to gain access.

While the wheel was off, we arranged for a specialist refinishing shop to repaint it.

We then degreased and steam cleaned the wheel arch, working through the accumulated grime and checking the result as we went. Before moving on to the finishing stage, we inspected the area to make sure the cleaning met our standards.

Finishing the plastics

Once the cleaning was complete, we applied a plastic dressing to refresh the appearance of the treated plastics.

The result is a much cleaner, more carefully finished area behind the wheel. For an owner keeping a car that means something to them, these smaller details are part of the satisfaction of caring for it.

Plastic dressing or longer-term trim protection?

For this job, we used a dressing to improve the appearance of the plastics. This is a temporary finish that will need maintenance and reapplication.

For owners looking for a more durable option, we can assess suitable exterior plastic trim for a GYEON trim coating treatment. This can be particularly relevant when the black wheel arch surrounds and other unpainted exterior trim begin to look faded.

A suitable trim coating can deepen the appearance of the plastic, help protect against further fading and make maintenance easier. The result depends on the condition of the trim, correct preparation and how the vehicle is used and maintained.

The MINI shown here received a plastic dressing; a trim coating is a separate upgrade.
